NEWS & REMINDERS
CROSSFIT KIDS
So many of us wish we had had the chance to start our CrossFit journey much earlier in life, but just didn’t have it as an option. With summer almost here, our wheels have been turning about providing that opportunity to the kids in our community (and beyond).
CrossFit Kids will be coming to our gym starting in June! Let’s spread the word and build some excitement for an amazing opportunity to get kids excited about exercise and good health! Stay tuned for more details!
Sign Up In Advance for Classes
Early sign-ups help tremendously in allowing our coaches to plan accordingly and make your experience amazing, each and every time.
Classes can be canceled due to a lack of sign ups, including early morning classes if people are not signed up the evening before.
‘Cleanliness is Godliness’
Let’s keep the gym tidy and clean. Please be sure to wipe down equipment with wipes provided and return equipment to its place when done.
Parents, thank you for doing your part in leaving the club room tidy and clean for the next set of kids.
Run Club 🏃♀️
Join the Run Club every Tuesday at 6pm at Sailfish. You don’t need to be an expert runner! Everyone goes at their own pace down a similar route from Avenue A to the bridge and back. It is a choose your own adventure run/walk, if you’d like to run all three miles, awesome! If you are just starting and want to walk a mile, great! When you're finished, Run Club meets back at Sailfish to grab a beverage for a discount. There is also a punch system depending on how many visits you can get things like free beer, t-shirts, and more.

WE ARE CROSSFIT FORT PIERCE
InBody | BODY COMPOSITION SCALE
Did you know that we have our very own InBody Body Composition Scale at the gym, free to use for all members. That’s right! It’s a really cool machine that quickly measure fat mass, muscle mass, and body water. It’s super user-friendly and non-invasive. You simply follow the step-by-step directions on it, and before you know it, you’re getting a detailed analysis print-out. Don’t want the paperwork? Then download the app and the results are automatically sent to and saved there, keeping a detailed history of your progress and achievements. It even has features to help you achieve your goals, like their macro calculations that can guide you on what and/or how much to eat depending on your fitness goal. Give it a try!! You can find it at the back of the gym next to the water cooler. Here’s a link to the company’s website where you can learn more about all of the features that are readily accessible to you, our CFFP member!
LIFE CLASS MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
Bob Winterton
Bob is 78 years old and will turn 79 in July. An electrical engineer by trade, he earned an associate degree in Electrical Engineering after serving five years in the Navy, and later completed a bachelor’s degree in Information Systems. Over the course of his career, he worked on repairing a wide range of office equipment, eventually specializing in Automated Teller Machines (ATMs). After moving to Florida in 1997, he continued in that field until 2005, when he launched his own business selling, repairing, and managing ATMs. He successfully ran the company for many years before closing it about two years ago.
Originally from a small town between Syracuse and Utica, New York, Bob lived and worked in several upstate cities before spending about 15 years in the Buffalo area, where he met the love of his life. After 31 years of marriage, she passed away in 2022. In 2023, he met Marie Flood, who introduced him to CrossFit, marking the beginning of a new and meaningful chapter in his life. Bob quickly found enjoyment in rowing, noting that his long-standing habit of cycling since 2017 has contributed to his strong legs. While upper body movements have been more challenging, he has embraced the opportunity to improve, even surprising himself by holding his body weight on the rings for an impressive one minute and 20 seconds—a milestone he sees as a testament to his progress.
CrossFit has played a key role in Bob’s health journey, especially over the past year while taking Wegovy (GLP-1). Focused on maintaining muscle while losing weight, he has successfully shed over 50 pounds and reduced his waist by about five inches, all while maintaining his weight on the lowest dosage. He credits both CrossFit and his personal cycling routine for these results. Beyond the physical benefits, Bob deeply values the sense of community at his gym, expressing appreciation for the supportive members and dedicated coaches. Even though he now lives closer to another CrossFit location, he chooses to stay where he feels most connected and encouraged.
Looking ahead, Bob has set an ambitious goal: to ride his electric bike the full length of the Erie Canal, nearly 200 miles, in 2027 when he turns 80. He is confident he can achieve it by staying consistent with his current routine. He enjoys a balanced approach to fitness, combining cardio like biking and rowing with weightlifting, which gives him a strong sense of accomplishment. When it comes to treating himself, he favors a Caprese salad or a chicken salad paired with a grilled cheese. Outside the gym, Bob is a proud Parrothead, actively involved in fundraising music events and currently serving as vice president of the Treasure Coast Parrothead Club, with plans to step into the role of president soon.
Athlete of the Month
Farida Chowdhury
Farida is a 51-year-old elementary school teacher who has dedicated over 20 years to education. She was first introduced to CrossFit about 15 years ago through others and was drawn to it because it offered something different from traditional gyms and machines. Her favorite movement is the clean and jerk, while she is currently focused on improving her front squat. Outside the gym, CrossFit has had a meaningful impact on her life, especially in shaping her relationship with health and nutrition. She acknowledges an ongoing struggle with food, describing it as a lifelong love-hate relationship, but finds encouragement in knowing that each day offers a fresh start. For her, returning to the gym reinforces the idea that setbacks are part of being human and that progress comes from persistence.
One of Farida’s proudest accomplishments is maintaining consistency during the entire month of Ramadan, pushing through the challenge of fasting from sunrise to sunset while still showing up for her workouts. She is also proud of achieving double unders, being able to link around 35 consecutively. What she values most about her gym community is the genuine investment of the coaches, the diversity among them, and the welcoming, family-like atmosphere. She appreciates the owner’s hands-on presence and the shared commitment to improving quality of life through both fitness and wellness.
Living with osteoarthritis in her shoulders and hips, Farida views staying active as essential to managing her pain, making fitness not just a routine but a necessity. Additionally, her daughter Zara has been a major source of motivation, having trained alongside her for a decade and going on to become a state finalist in high school weightlifting. If she were to design her own workout, she jokes that it would definitely not include running, and while she doesn’t have a go-to post-workout treat, she prefers not to undo the effort she’s just put in. As for fun facts, she laughs that there’s little left unknown about her—everyone already seems to know her well.

APRIL FITNESS CHALLENGE
800m Cool Down
This month, we are challenging you to perform a 800m run/jog/walk after each WOD at the gym! It’s a great way to cool down after an intense workout, connect with other members, and help your body recover. Don’t hesitate to be the ring leader at the end of a class and round up a few others to go for a quick jog. You never know…it might even help you get better at running! For each time that you cool down with a 800m run after a WOD at the gym, add a tally mark to your name on the PR board. Let’s see those numbers at the end of the month!
Here’s a quick article about the benefits of a quick run after an intense workout.
