WE ARE CROSSFIT FORT PIERCE
DID YOU KNOW THAT…
We have our very own InBody Body Composition Scale at the gym, free to use for all members. That’s right! It’s a really cool machine that quickly measure fat mass, muscle mass, and body water. It’s super user-friendly and non-invasive. You simply follow the step-by-step directions on it, and before you know it, you’re getting a detailed analysis print-out. Don’t want the paperwork? Then download the app and the results are automatically sent to and saved there, keeping a detailed history of your progress and achievements. It even has features to help you achieve your goals, like their macro calculations that can guide you on what and/or how much to eat depending on your fitness goal. Give it a try!! You can find it at the back of the gym next to the water cooler. Here’s a link to the company’s website where you can learn more about all of the features that are readily accessible to you, our CFFP member!
LIFE CLASS MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
Jo-Ann Berg
At 29 years young 😉, Jo-Ann Berg is bringing plenty of energy and determination to the LIFE Class! Retired after a career as an Actuarial Analyst with the Florida Department of Insurance, Jo-Ann later took a completely different path, starting, owning, and operating Sharky’s Restaurant. Originally from Yonkers, New York, Jo-Ann moved to Vero Beach when she was in sixth grade and has called the Treasure Coast home ever since.
Her journey into CrossFit was encouraged by her husband, Paul, who had been attending the 6:00 a.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday classes for years. Eventually, his enthusiasm convinced Jo-Ann to give it a try. She especially enjoys stretching movements, and she is currently working on improving her burpees.
CrossFit has had a tremendous impact on Jo-Ann’s overall health and quality of life. When she first started, she couldn’t get down on the ground to play with her grandchildren. Now, she can—and that may be one of her biggest accomplishments of all. One of her proudest CrossFit moments was simply being able to complete a WOD within the allotted time.
What Jo-Ann loves most about the LIFE Class is the people. “I love how welcoming the LIFE Class friends have been to me,” she says. “We have a tight group and have fun social events.” That sense of friendship and community is also what motivates her to keep showing up. She knows how good she feels after a workout, and she looks forward to seeing all of her CrossFit friends.
If Jo-Ann could create her own WOD, it would include a bike, sit-ups, squats, and running. And when it comes to refueling after a workout, her favorite meal is an açaí bowl with berries and peanut butter.
Outside the gym, Jo-Ann has quite an adventure story to tell. She once drove a boat from Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, crossing the Great Lakes, traveling down the Hudson River, and continuing along the East Coast all the way to Florida. Clearly, Jo-Ann knows a thing or two about setting a course and seeing it through—and that same determination is showing up in her CrossFit journey!
Athlete of the Month
Bijal Parikh
At 47, self-employed business owner Bijal Parikh is proving that it’s never too late to step outside your comfort zone and discover what you’re capable of. After experiencing some personal challenges over the past three to four years, Bijal wanted to focus on improving both her mental and physical health. Last December, she decided to give CrossFit a try—even though she had never lifted weights in her 20s or 30s.
What she found was more than just a workout. CrossFit gave Bijal a place where she could challenge herself, surround herself with a supportive community, and become stronger day by day. Her favorite movements so far are wall balls and snatches, which she enjoys for the athleticism involved. She’s also set an ambitious goal for herself: improving her overall strength and fitness while working toward her first pull-up. Her goal is to complete one pull-up by November of this year!
CrossFit has already started making an impact beyond the gym. Bijal says it has inspired her to continue setting new goals and pushing her limits, and it recently motivated her to join the Sunrise Champs Run Club. One of her proudest CrossFit moments came when she was able to perform lunges for the first time. While it might seem like a small victory to some, moments like that have taught Bijal that she can keep showing up, learning new skills, and refusing to give up—even when things get difficult.
One of the things Bijal loves most about the gym is the incredible support from the community. “Everyone cheers each other on, no matter their fitness level,” she says. Her coaches have also played an important role in her journey, helping guide her fitness and teaching her new skills along the way. The encouragement from both the coaches and her fellow class members continues to push her toward her limits and keeps her coming back.
If Bijal could create her own WOD, you can expect wall balls, clean and jerks, and V-ups. Afterward, her go-to recovery treat is simple and nutritious: plain Greek yogurt.
And when she’s not working out, Bijal loves a good card game. She especially enjoys the challenge and strategy involved in playing—and, of course, the opportunity to come out on top!
Bijal’s CrossFit journey is a great reminder that progress doesn’t always happen overnight. Sometimes it starts with simply being willing to try something new. By continuing to show up, embrace the challenge, and celebrate each new accomplishment, Bijal is discovering just how strong she can become.

AUGUST FITNESS CHALLENGE
Successory Work
If you haven’t noticed, there is a little section of the WOD board, usually top or bottom right, where you’ll often find a recommended set of movements as post-wod successory work. This month, we are challenging you to take the extra 5-10 minutes each day to complete this work, and each time you do, write you name with a tally mark next to your name on the PR/Challenge board. Many members who do this work consistently swear by it and say that it has done wonders for their overall performance at the gym. So go ahead, give it a try, and see if by the end of the month, you’re feeling it!
