WE ARE CROSSFIT FORT PIERCE

Introducing our newest member…

Victoria Vieyra

Congrats to the proud parents Lirian & Tony and siblings Cami & Jacob.

DID YOU KNOW THAT…

We have our very own InBody Body Composition Scale at the gym, free to use for all members. That’s right! It’s a really cool machine that quickly measure fat mass, muscle mass, and body water. It’s super user-friendly and non-invasive. You simply follow the step-by-step directions on it, and before you know it, you’re getting a detailed analysis print-out. Don’t want the paperwork? Then download the app and the results are automatically sent to and saved there, keeping a detailed history of your progress and achievements. It even has features to help you achieve your goals, like their macro calculations that can guide you on what and/or how much to eat depending on your fitness goal. Give it a try!! You can find it at the back of the gym next to the water cooler. Here’s a link to the company’s website where you can learn more about all of the features that are readily accessible to you, our CFFP member!

LIFE CLASS MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

Torrie Gagne

At 63, Torrie is proof that getting older doesn’t mean slowing down—it means making sure you can keep doing all the things you want to do. Originally from Eastern Connecticut, Torrie recently retired after spending 19 years working at Save the Chimps. She decided to give CrossFit a try around the time COVID started, and from the very beginning, she felt right at home at CFFP. For Torrie, CrossFit isn’t just about getting stronger or getting a good workout in. It’s about maintaining her movement and independence for the years ahead. “I really need to maintain my movements as it's my key to independence in my older years,” she says.

If you want to make Torrie happy, put a barbell in front of her. Strength days are her favorite, and she especially loves the big lifts. These days, she’s working on adding weight to her deadlifts and back squats and continuing to see what she’s capable of. Cardio? Well… that’s another story. When asked what she’s working to improve, her response was simply, “ENDURANCE uggghh lol.” She knows she needs it, and she also knows she needs to be pushed to do it—which is probably exactly why our coaches keep sneaking that cardio into the workouts! Her ideal WOD would be something along the lines of powerlifting or strength training, with just enough cardio to make sure she doesn’t get off too easy.

One of the things Torrie loves most about CFFP is that it’s such a welcoming, non-judgmental place. She admits she’s “not a people person,” but somehow LIFE class has managed to bring out her social side. She enjoys the friends she’s made, seeing familiar faces around the gym, and having that accountability to keep showing up. And, of course, she has one small suggestion for the LIFE schedule: “Well, it's only twice a week. Three times would be awesome—hint hint!” Consider the hint officially received, Torrie!

Perhaps the biggest reason Torrie values her training is because she knows firsthand what it means to work your way back from something difficult. After undergoing three shoulder surgeries, one of her proudest moments was the day she was finally able to put her arms behind her back again. It may sound like a small movement, but after everything she had been through, it was a huge accomplishment and a reminder of why maintaining strength and mobility matters so much.

And what keeps her coming back? Well, according to Torrie, it’s a combination of accountability, challenging workouts, new friendships, and the fact that we put up with her. 😂 “Y’all put up with my BS lol. I feel like I can be myself there. I just love it.” Honestly, we wouldn’t have it any other way. Torrie says she recommends CFFP to everyone, and we’re pretty lucky to have her as part of our LIFE class community.

In her spare time, Torrie enjoys growing tropical plants, attending music festivals, hanging out with her cats, and spending time in New Mexico.

And finally, a fun fact about Torrie that may surprise you: She has never dyed her hair. Not once. Apparently, she’s been rocking the natural look all along—and we have a feeling she plans to keep doing things her own way for a long time to come!

Athlete of the Month

Jeremy McWhorter

At 49, Jeremy brings the same kind of determination and grit to CFFP that you might expect from someone who works as a firefighter. Interestingly enough, though, it was his wife who brought him to CrossFit. Since then, he’s found plenty of reasons to keep coming back. For Jeremy, the biggest benefit has been how much better he feels. He says that since starting CrossFit, “I feel better, my ailments are less, and my body feels better.” And when you have a physically demanding job, feeling good and being able to move well can make a pretty big difference.

When it comes to movements, Jeremy has a definite favorite: rowing. He also enjoys back squats and jump rope, but anything overhead? Not so much. In fact, when asked about his least favorite movement, his answer was simply, “Anything overhead.” We won't take it personally, Jeremy.

One of the things Jeremy is currently working toward is improving his endurance, particularly when it comes to running. His goal is to be able to finish the longer runs without stopping—a challenge he continues to tackle one workout at a time. And while the workouts themselves can certainly be demanding, Jeremy says it’s the support, encouragement, and push he receives at CFFP that keep him motivated. There’s always someone cheering you on, encouraging you to keep going, and occasionally pushing you just a little farther than you thought you could go.

For Jeremy, the best part of finishing a workout isn’t necessarily what happened during the WOD—it’s how he feels afterward. “I achieved something,” he says. That simple feeling of accomplishment is what makes all the hard work worthwhile. Whether he’s rowing, jumping rope, grinding through back squats, or working toward finishing those longer runs, Jeremy keeps showing up and putting in the work.

And what’s the perfect way to celebrate surviving a tough workout? Jeremy has the answer: a good protein-filled meal. We can definitely get behind that. Congratulations to Jeremy on being named Athlete of the Month! We’re proud to have you as part of the CFFP community and look forward to seeing what you tackle next.
